Grid View Quilt Pattern Fabric Requirments

We share exactly what you need, so there is minimal fabric waste. Plus, searching through your fabric stash to see what you can use is always fun. But I understand the other side of this coin, as mistakes happen, and if you are a beginner or want to ensure you will have enough fabric, consider purchasing an extra quarter of a yard.

Grid View Quilt Pattern Sizes

  • Baby - 35” x 44”

  • Small Throw - 52.5” x 66”

  • Twin - 70” x 88”

Visual Learners

YouTube has helped me a ton in my quilting journey, as it was the main source of how I learned to quilt. In this Grid View tutorial, I go through an intro, including colors and cutting (including using my favorite Stripology Ruler) tips. Plus walk you through making a block and masting three piecing techniques: strip piecing, chain piecing, and nesting seams.

Grid View Pattern Cover

This was my first time using PBS Fabrics - Painter’s Palette solids, and I am in love. I would describe them as if Art Gallery Fabrics (AGF) and Kona Solids had a baby; it would be Painter’s Palette. These fabrics have a soft, smooth, and silky touch similar to AGF but include a weight and texture similar to Kona. They are delightful to sew with and can be found at String & Story, Sew Much More, and Quilting Is My Therapy.

This quilt kit can be purchased at String & Story while supplies last.

  • Fabric A - Ivory

  • Fabric B - Vintage Rose

  • Fabric C - Mulberry

  • Fabric D - Raisin

Color Inspiration

One of the best things that help me decide on fabric is to take what is in my head and put it on paper, or in this case, on screen. Creating a mock-up gives me the visualization I need to purchase the fabric confidently. QuiltInk lets you create as many mocks ups as you want with solid fabric, and stay tuned because a new release is coming out to use printed patterns. Did I mention it’s free?

Monochromatic

My first ever Grid View quilt before we knew it was Grid View. It’s the perfect quick sew for a baby gift; I have one quit kit in the shop to make a Small Throw size. Oh and I can’t wait for Ocean Fog to return in stock.

50 Shades of Tan

My second Grid View helped me finalize the name of the quilt. After living in Phoenix for seven years and then going to my first QuiltCon in 2022 in Phoenix, it was meant to be. The design is about aerial views of cities, specifically Phoenix, which is built on a grid. I had this idea of quilting a map of Phoenix, and luckily, I have talented friends in the guild because Katelin of Red Rocks Quiling Co made my wild quilting dreams come true. Isn’t it beautiful? I am excited to share that Jennyth of Pasadena Quilt Studio has quilt kits.

Sprout Wovens

Soft earthy tone fabric, yessss please! This is the first quilt I made with Fableism Sprout Wovens, and I love them even more! I will recommend if you are a beginner quilter, I would stick with 100% cotton fabric until you have more practice under your belt. But if you are looking for a challenge, pair Grid View pattern with woven fabrics, it was so much fun! Quilt kits are listed in my shop. PS I have a few other Sprout Wovens lists as well.

Moonglow

Spice up your life! A Zahm Co and Lamb & Loom collaboration brings you Moonglow, a sunny summer day quilt kit. Pieced by Syaza and quilted by Cara of Sew Colorado Quilting.

Essex Linen

A beautiful Essex Linen Grid View quilt from the talented Kim Vogelsang. Quilt Kits are available for purchase at Crimson Tate.

Cherry Blossom

My long-time quilt friend Katelyn, owner of Ollie Fabrics, made this stunning Cherry Blossom Grid View. Katelyn and I met over the IG quilting community, and it’s one of those friendships that has blossomed over the years (pun intended :)). You can grab this quilt kit in her shop!

Simply Elegant

Katherine Elizabeth made this divine Grid View baby quilt with AGF Pure Solids. Fabric colors include White Linen, Sweet Macadamia, Peach Sherbet, and Field of Lavender. Picture this, sitting on this quilt in a lavender field, reading a book, and having a picnic. Yes, please. You can find this quilt kit in Katherine’s UK online shop, The Solent Quilter.

Rustic

One of my favorite things about Grid View is it is super easy to turn it into a masculine quilt. This version by Claudia of Bay Avenue Studio reminds me of a flannel my husband wears. Quilt coat, anyone? I still have never made one, but maybe this is the quilt pattern I have always needed to make it. You can find this quilt kit at Pasadena Quilt Studio.

Low Volume Prints

Isn’t this quilting by Sew Colorado delicious? But let’s talk about the fabric first. FIGO Serenity line is one of my all time favorite collections. Does anyone remember my Artwork Quilt, also made from Serenity? Tip for bi-directional fabric. I used stripe fabric for Fabric B, and my tip would be to purchase an additional 1/8 yard. You will need to fussy cut one B3 strip. This is for Block 4 in step 21 of the pattern. Email me if you have any questions!
